New arrangement of the final years of lower-secondary education

Various cantons have begun with a new arrangement of the final years of lower-secondary education, so as to prepare pupils more adequately for their transition to upper-secondary education. The pupils' state of knowledge and skills is assessed at the end of the penultimate year of lower-secondary school. The pupils can thus be supported with specific individual measures in their final year of lower-secondary school. Their skills are enhanced or learning deficiencies rectified. Project work and final assignments or portfolios with a personal performance profile of the pupils can, for instance, help training companies to make a better evaluation of the pupils' suitability for apprenticeships. In this context, various cantons are adapting the content and methods in their career guidance and vocational preparation classes. Family, school, occupational guidance counselling and employer work closer together.
